1. What changed: one list for products from different stores
In its October 15 announcement, Google said Universal Cart was beginning to roll out in Google Search and the Gemini app in the US. It is a persistent shopping list for products you discover on Google, even when they come from different merchants.
It can also provide price-drop and restock alerts, along with relevant offers and payment suggestions. When you are ready to buy, participating merchants support checkout with Google Pay; other purchases can be completed on the merchant’s website. The merchant remains responsible for the sale, order confirmation and after-sales service.
This is a US rollout. It does not establish availability for accounts in China or other countries.
2. How it helps: separate finding products from deciding what to buy
When choosing a lamp, storage boxes and curtains for a new home, you may have several stores open at once. The next day, it is easy to forget where a screenshot came from or repeat the search. A shared list keeps those finds available so you can pick up the comparison later.
Price and restock alerts can help when you are not in a hurry. Record what you need, then wait for new information instead of opening the same pages every day. An alert is a reason to take another look. You still need to check specifications, delivery costs, arrival dates and return conditions.
The tool is useful for organizing possible purchases. It does not decide which item suits you best, or guarantee that every merchant and product uses the same payment flow.
3. How to use it: save a few items, then check each merchant
If you are in the US and the feature has appeared in your account, you can discover products through Search, Shopping, AI Mode or Gemini. Google Wallet Help explains the available actions and limitations.
- Start with a specific need. For example, search for a dimmable lamp for a small desk. Check the model and seller, then save the item using the cart option shown on the page.
- Open the cart to review your list. Items are organized by merchant. Start with two or three, confirm the variants and remove anything you no longer want to consider. Do not assume that telling a chat assistant to “add everything” will save the products.
- Compare the actual purchase conditions. If you see an alert, offer or payment suggestion, check its conditions and the checkout total. Set your own budget first so a discount does not become a reason to buy something you do not need.
- Choose an available checkout route. Participating merchants support Google Pay checkout on Google; other cases send you to the merchant’s website. Check quantities, address and total again before paying.
- Keep the merchant’s confirmation. An order appears in
My Ordersonly if the merchant shares its order data with Google. If it is missing, check the merchant’s email or your account before ordering again.
Gemini and AI Mode have limited access to cart and order data. To review a list or order, opening the relevant page is more reliable than repeatedly asking a chat assistant for its status.
