Review the content before generating the visuals

Gemini Notebook uses material you provide for questions and content generation; a notebook is a space for organizing the sources for a task. On October 19, 2026, Google announced a flow that suggests directions from those sources, helps confirm the topic, style, and format, and lets you review outline notes for slides or producer notes for video. Choosing Proceed then starts final generation.

The change adds a content-review step before generation. Direct generation in Studio remains available, so a simple task does not always need an extra outline review.

Availability needs care: the announcement says the feature will roll out globally over the following week, while the current official help page still describes co-creation as exclusive to Ultra users. These descriptions are not yet aligned. Check whether the entry point appears in your account rather than assuming every account already has access.

Fix the narrative before waiting for a full deck

Having all the sources for a project update does not guarantee the right narrative order. A model may begin with extensive background when the audience mainly needs conclusions and decisions. Generating the entire deck first means discovering that structural problem after the fact.

Outline review makes the planned narrative visible before the visuals are rendered. You can give specific feedback in one round, such as “Start with the conclusion, explain the three supporting points, and end with the decisions needed.” That may reduce rework caused by an unsuitable structure, but it is not a measured time-saving guarantee. Approving an outline also does not verify the facts: generated content can still contain errors.

Try outline review with a project briefing

The following steps follow the official slide-deck help page. Check that you are in a supported country or territory and sign in to a Google Account. Work or school accounts also require access enabled by the organization administrator. Slide Deck requires users to be at least 18 and have edit access to the notebook; the co-creation entry point is also subject to the account availability described above. Use the help page's Gemini Notebook entry point to open an existing project notebook, or create one and add your project sources.

  1. Set up the deck. In Studio, open Slide Deck and choose the format, language, length, and sources. For example: “Make a briefing for the project lead. Start with this week's conclusions, then the supporting evidence and decisions needed. Use only the selected sources.” This is a sample request; the output still needs checking.
  2. Enable review before generation. Turn on Review outline notes and choose Generate now. This starts preparation of the outline. Generate later schedules generation without producing this outline for review, so it is not a substitute for this step.
  3. Give feedback together. When the outline is ready, select Review in Studio, read the proposed structure, and submit all requested changes at once. For example: “Move the progress conclusion to the start, merge repeated background, and retain the unresolved items.” Identify the content to change instead of only asking for a more professional result.
  4. Proceed and inspect the result. Choose Proceed to generate the deck. After that, you cannot continue refining this pre-generation outline. You can play the resulting deck in Notebook or download it as a PDF. Before sharing, compare numbers, quotations, and unresolved items with the sources. Reviewing the outline does not mean every slide has been verified.

If the relevant toggle is absent, use the generation options currently available to your account and wait for access. A button shown in a video or announcement screenshot does not establish that your account has it.
