1. What the guide explains: bring company materials into content creation
In an official guide published on October 16, Microsoft explained how Microsoft 365 Copilot Brand Kits are used and managed. A brand kit brings together approved materials such as logos, colors, fonts, images and templates.
This is a new explanation of an existing feature, rather than its first launch that day. It addresses a practical problem: AI can generate content quickly, but without suitable materials and templates, employees may still spend time bringing it back into the company’s style.
Personal, shared and official kits serve different audiences. A collection shared by a team does not automatically become an official kit approved for the whole organization.
2. How it helps: spend less time finding assets and more time explaining the work
Preparing a project update often starts with finding last year’s slides and checking whether their logo and fonts are still current. A branded template gives you a clearer starting point: begin with the organization’s prepared design, then organize what this update needs to say.
For people who regularly create proposals, training or internal updates, that can reduce repeated searches for materials. A template can also show how to arrange information and how much belongs on a slide. Its value is more than a change of colors.
Choosing a brand kit does not automatically restyle every existing slide. You still need to check numbers, image use, text density and layout page by page. The kit helps you start; clear communication still depends on the content and the edits.
3. How to use it: start a project update from an available template
Use an appropriately licensed work or school account, and check that your organization has configured its brand materials. A missing company-template option may be related to the account, license or organization setup. See Microsoft’s branded-template guide and instructions for creating a file from a template.
- Open the template entry point. In the Microsoft Copilot app, go to
Createand browse branded templates. Some interfaces placeBrand templatesunderMore…. - Check the source and purpose. Filter by a category such as
Official. Choose a template suited to a project update, check whether it belongs to PowerPoint or another app, and open it. - Prepare your own material first. Gather this week’s progress, current problems, next week’s plan and sourced numbers. Mark missing information instead of asking AI to invent data to fill a slide.
- Make a specific request in an app with the relevant Copilot feature. For example: “Turn these project notes into an update for business colleagues. Explain completed work, current problems and next steps. Keep the current template and one main point per slide. Mark numbers I haven’t supplied as missing.” You can also fill in the template manually.
- Review each page and save. Check that headings explain the point, text is not crowded, charts match the original material, and logos and images are used appropriately. Split a slide when needed, then save the file.
If your organization has not prepared branded templates, ask the design or brand team which materials are approved. Assembling a style from old files does not make it an approved brand kit.
