1. What happened: another model choice for short tasks

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026. The company positions it for bounded, high-volume work such as summarization and classification, emphasizing response speed and operating cost. For people using the chat app, the immediate change is another model choice for everyday small tasks.

The performance and cost comparisons in the announcement come from the vendor. Prices listed per token apply to the developer API; they are not an announcement of lower Claude chat subscription prices.

2. How it helps: delegate the sorting and keep the judgment

Suppose you receive a dozen course comments and want to know whether they concern the content, schedule or registration process. You can provide those categories, ask the model to sort each comment, and leave uncertain cases separate. Compared with asking it to decide the next course strategy, this has a defined input and output that are easier to check.

Another suggested use is processing meeting notes: extract agreed actions, owners and dates, while keeping undecided items marked “to confirm.” It can help with the first pass of organization. Contradictory material or more complex reasoning calls for a fuller analysis and, where needed, a model better suited to that work.

3. How to use it: organize one set of meeting notes

The official availability page lists Haiku 5.5 for Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users in Claude on the web, iOS and Android. Actual options still depend on your account, region and organization settings.

  1. Choose the model. Sign in to Claude and select Haiku 5.5 from the model options your account provides. If it is missing, check the available models; buying API credits is not a prerequisite for this step.
  2. Provide a bounded source. Paste meeting notes you are allowed to process with AI and specify that the result must use only those notes.
  3. State the output clearly. Try: “Create four columns: action, owner, due date and supporting text. Write ‘to confirm’ where no owner or date is explicit. Do not turn suggestions under discussion into agreed actions.” This is a suggested prompt.
  4. Check before using it. Compare names, figures and negative conditions with the notes, add any genuinely missing context, then move confirmed actions to your task list.

To judge whether it suits your work, look at how often similar inputs need corrections and how easy the output is to check, as well as speed. Refer to your account’s terms for free usage limits and chat subscription prices.
